Death of a President

President Gerald Ford died Tuesday at age 93, fulfilling his longstanding vow to outlive James Brown. The former President was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing, his last words reportedly, "In your face, Mr. Dynamite." President Ford died on December 26, the same day as former President Harry Truman, who had once boasted that he would live long enough to dance on the grave of negro singer Cab Calloway. Truman failed in this attempt, bringing the total to one each for Republican Presidents and African-American songsters.

President George W. Bush ordered all flags to fly at half-staff to honor Ford, and also pledged to "Do everything within my power-by the grace of God- to outlive Dr. Dre".
